Trump threatens to seize Strait of Hormuz; Iran walks out in Swiss

The threat disrupted four-way technical talks mediated by Qatar and Pakistan just as new peace negotiations were getting started.

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to strike Iran harder and take control of the Strait of Hormuz as the two countries’ delegations held technical talks in Swiss on Sunday (21/6). In remarks on Truth Social and to Fox News, Trump also said the U.S. could charge transit fees and take 20 percent of the oil passing through if there is no deal. According to CNN Indonesia, the threat prompted the Iranian delegation to walk out of the four-way talks at Hotel Burgenstock, which were mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. The head of the Iranian delegation, Mohammed Ghalibaf, later warned on X that the U.S. should be careful with its words and said Iran’s armed forces were ready to respond.
