Why it matters: New US alerts in 10 countries point to wider regional disruption, including shipping risks and possible flight cancellations.
President Donald Trump threatened additional US strikes on Iran as fighting widened across the Gulf, with Kuwait reporting drone attacks on vital facilities and a tanker damaged in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said at Camp David that the United States would hit Iran “very hard” until Tehran comes back to negotiations. Kuwait’s Defense Ministry said the drones struck several key sites in the north but caused no casualties. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency also reported that an unknown projectile hit a vessel 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman, damaging its engine room, while a separate explosion was reported near another tanker. The US State Department issued fresh security alerts for Americans in 10 countries across the region.
