Trump set June 19 Hormuz reopening under US-Iran peace deal
Why it matters: The reported 14-point pact includes ending fighting on multiple fronts and lifting the US blockade on Iran within 30 days.
President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen Friday, June 19, after the United States and Iran sign a peace agreement in Switzerland. In a Truth Social post, Trump said the waterway would first be cleared of mines and that oil would resume flowing through the region and to global markets. Iran’s Mehr news agency reported the memorandum of understanding contains 14 points, including an end to fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon, and the lifting of the US blockade on Iran within 30 days. Trump also said ships would be able to pass through Hormuz without transit charges. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry called the deal an important step toward long-term peace.
