Trump rallies in South Carolina for Darline Graham before GOP runoff
Why it matters: Tuesday's primary runoff will test Trump's sway in a special Senate race with November control of Congress in view.
President Donald Trump traveled to Myrtle Beach on Friday to boost Sen. Darline Graham, his endorsed candidate in Tuesday's Republican runoff for South Carolina's open U.S. Senate seat. The special election was triggered by the July death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Gov. Henry McMaster appointed his sister to serve temporarily. Graham, a political newcomer, has faced scrutiny after telling debate moderators that national security was "not my thing" when asked about the U.S. alliance with Taiwan. Her runoff opponent is Rep. Ralph Norman. Trump's appearance, one of his bigger midterm campaign events this year, underscored the stakes for both Graham and the White House ahead of November.
