Trump puts Iran war deal 2 to 3 days away as oil slips

What's new: Brent fell 1.3% and U.S. crude 1.8% after Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen once a deal is reached.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that a deal to end the Iran war could come within “two or three days,” adding that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately after an agreement that bars Tehran from getting nuclear weapons. His comments came as the ceasefire between Iran and Israel showed new strain after both sides exchanged strikes over the weekend, the first such attacks since the truce took hold in mid-April. Iran fired missiles toward northern Israel after accusing Israel of violating the ceasefire through strikes on Lebanon, including Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israel then hit what it called strategic defense systems. Trump also said the crew of a U.S. Apache helicopter that went down near the strait on Monday was unhurt. Oil prices fell after his remarks.
