Trump pushes Iran deal for weekend signing, but Tehran holds back

What's new: Iran said key text is drafted but no final decision has been made, even as oil fell and stocks rose on hopes for a truce.

President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran could sign an agreement within days to end their three-month conflict, but Tehran said no final decision had been made. Trump told reporters a signing could happen over the weekend in Europe and framed the draft as a settlement that would keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei called reports of a finished deal speculative, saying much of the text had been completed but Iran was still reviewing it and would not cross its red lines. Markets reacted quickly, with Brent crude dropping about 4.4% and Asian stocks rising as investors bet the fighting and shipping disruption could ease.
