Trump pushes ICE to keep traffic stops after 2 fatal shootings
What's new: The president publicly broke with a reported ICE pullback after deadly shootings in Maine and Houston.
President Donald Trump urged Immigration and Customs Enforcement to keep using traffic stops, challenging a reported agency suspension after two recent fatal shootings. In a social media post Wednesday, Trump called traffic stops one of ICE's most effective enforcement tools as his administration presses its immigration crackdown. The reported pause followed the shooting death of a Colombian driver in Maine on Monday and another motorist in Houston a week earlier. A third man also died in Florida after being struck by a tractor-trailer while fleeing immigration officers. The incidents have intensified scrutiny of ICE tactics and drawn pressure from lawmakers, including Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Angus King.
