The U.S.-Canada trade dispute deepened after President Donald Trump moved to raise tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel to 50%, while new levies on other goods already began after bilateral talks broke down. Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged retaliatory tariffs starting Sept. 8 on U.S. steel, dairy, appliances and electronics. The fight is hitting businesses on both sides of the border, especially smaller firms tied to cross-border buyers. Calgary jewelry seller Cindy Baldassi said about 75% of her sales come from Americans and expects the tariffs could wipe out at least half that business. Toronto menswear brand Outclass warned U.S. retailers may cancel shipments due in September if surprise tariff bills arrive.
