President Donald Trump held off on new US strikes against Iran for a second straight day, opening more room for diplomacy after nearly two weeks of nightly attacks. US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said Trump was giving negotiations “a little bit of room” but keeping military options available. An Iranian army spokesperson said Tehran had also stopped retaliatory attacks in the region. The lull follows 13 consecutive nights of US strikes before July 24 and a broader conflict that reignited after tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz on July 13. Waltz rejected reports that the Pentagon was slowing operations because of weapons shortages, saying US forces had what they needed. The strait remains a major flashpoint for global energy shipments.
