Trump says Netanyahu will not be arrested in the US
The comment came after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the city lacks independent authority to enforce the ICC warrant.
US President Donald Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested while in the United States, including if he comes to New York for the UN General Assembly in September. Trump posted the position on Truth Social after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani reviewed the possible enforcement of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant.
Later, Mamdani said the city government had examined all available legal avenues and concluded New York City does not have independent legal authority to execute the ICC warrant against the foreign head of government. He said that authority rests with the federal government. The ICC warrant issued in November 2024 accuses Netanyahu of responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the war in Gaza.
