Trump moves Iran war deal toward Congress as lawmakers seek text
What's next: A signing ceremony is expected Friday, and Congress could review the pact before any sanctions relief takes effect.
President Donald Trump said he would send his interim deal with Iran to Congress for review, as lawmakers from both parties pressed for details that have not been released. The memorandum of understanding, announced Sunday, would extend a ceasefire by 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to officials from both countries. Trump said he wanted to wait until after a formal signing ceremony expected Friday. Under the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, Congress may have to examine the agreement before sanctions can be eased. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called for classified briefings for the Gang of Eight and the full Congress, while some Republicans have also sought more information.
