Trump misidentifies Abdul El-Sayed as “Mohammed” in Michigan
Update: Trump also called the Democratic candidate a “terror sympathizer,” drawing a response from El-Sayed in Grand Rapids.
United States President Donald Trump misidentified Michigan Muslim Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed as “Mohammed” while attacking him on Truth Social on 8 October. In the post, Trump also called El-Sayed a “terror sympathizer” without providing evidence. El-Sayed, a US citizen of Arab descent running as a Democrat, responded at a campaign event in Grand Rapids. He said Trump knows his name but deliberately refused to say it correctly. According to El-Sayed, the attack was used to distract from Trump’s political fallout. CNN Indonesia and The Straits Times reported that El-Sayed’s full name does include Mohamed as a middle name, but he does not use it publicly.
