The Justice Department plans to withdraw subpoenas issued to New York Times journalists over reporting on security concerns involving a Qatari-donated Air Force One, a prosecutor told a federal judge in Manhattan on Thursday. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton issued the subpoenas on July 10 after the Times reported that Donald Trump left Turkey on the older presidential plane because the donated aircraft lacked antimissile and other defensive features. Judge Arun Subramanian had paused enforcement pending the hearing. Prosecutors had also asked to hold the subpoenas for two weeks, while the Times urged the court to quash them, calling the move harassment that violated First Amendment protections and DOJ rules on subpoenaing journalists.
