Trump completes Lincoln Reflecting Pool overhaul as costs top $13 million
What's new: Water is due back in the basin by Sunday, while records show contracts far above Trump's original $2 million estimate.
President Donald Trump's renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is complete, and the basin is set to be refilled with water by Sunday, according to a court filing and administration statements. The work included resurfacing the pool, fixing leaks and repainting it a deep shade Trump calls "American flag blue." Trump had put the price at about $1.5 million to $2 million, but federal records cited by multiple outlets show at least $13.1 million to $14.8 million in contracts tied to the project. The pool, built in the 1920s on the National Mall, is due to reopen before the July 4 holiday as Washington faces criticism over cost, contracting and the site's altered appearance.
