Trump claims US stock market lost US$3 trillion after Democrat win
He still described the US economy as strong, citing 165,000 additional jobs in October despite the market drop.
US President Donald Trump claimed the US stock market lost US$3 trillion after the Democratic Party won the Nov. 3 midterm elections. During a visit to a space center in Florida and in separate remarks at the White House on Friday, Trump blamed the election result for the market’s decline a day earlier. He said he would have been even more upset if the market had risen, because that would have meant investors thought Democrats had performed well. Even so, Trump said the US economy remained strong. He pointed to the addition of 165,000 jobs in October as evidence. According to Antara, Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress in the election, while CNN Indonesia wrote that this was Trump’s first public speech after the Republican defeat.
