President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to let construction continue on a $400 million White House ballroom after lower courts ordered work to stop pending congressional approval. The emergency filing seeks to block an injunction set to take effect Aug. 21, which would halt major above-ground work on the East Wing and ballroom while the case continues. Administration lawyers argued a pause would jeopardize presidential security and disrupt a project they say also includes military and medical facilities. The National Trust for Historic Preservation, which sued after the East Wing was demolished last year, argues the administration bypassed required review and public-comment procedures. Chief Justice John Roberts ordered the trust to respond by Tuesday noon.
