Trump arch project slated for 20-hour workdays over 2 to 3 years

What's new: plans call for 320-foot cranes, months of heavy excavation and up to 100 soil loads a day near Reagan National Airport.

Planning documents released by the Interior Department show the National Park Service expects construction on President Donald Trump's proposed "Triumphal Arch" to run 20 hours a day for two to three years to meet his timeline. The agency last week published designs, renderings and reports and opened a public comment period on the project, which would reshape the Washington skyline near Arlington National Cemetery. The 250-foot monument would use concrete faced with U.S.-sourced granite. The plans describe seven construction phases, including about five months of heavy equipment work to drive foundations roughly 75 feet to bedrock. Documents estimate about 30 trucks would haul as many as 100 soil loads a day. The FAA found no significant adverse effect on airport procedures at nearby Reagan National, though the structure would need red obstruction lights.
