Trump orders new strikes on Iran after peace MoU collapses

Explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas, Konarak, Chabahar and Kish Island after CENTCOM launched a wave of attacks.

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered new strikes on Iran on Wednesday (8/7), hours after saying the Washington-Tehran peace memorandum had expired. Trump said the move was in response to Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and on U.S. military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait. The U.S. military's Central Command, CENTCOM, said the operation was aimed at weakening Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in a route carrying about one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supply. Iranian state media reported explosions heard on Kish Island, in Bandar Abbas, Konarak and Chabahar, along with power outages in parts of the region.
