Brake failure truck hits 8 vehicles in Sibolangit, 4 dead
Driver Ilham has been taken into custody as police examine the truck's roadworthiness and the suspected brake failure.
A chain collision involving nine vehicles occurred on Jalan Jamin Ginting Km 44-45, Desa Suka Makmur, Kecamatan Sibolangit, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara, on Friday at around 10:30 a.m. WIB. Police suspect a Fuso truck carrying mineral water jugs, traveling from Karo toward Medan, suffered brake failure and then struck eight vehicles ahead of it. Four people were killed and eight others injured. The victims were Heppi Sitinjak, Dinaria Manik, Samsir Sitinjak, and Anton Simorangkir. The truck driver, Ilham, has been secured at Polsek Pancur Batu for questioning. Police are also investigating the truck's condition, its roadworthiness, and why the braking system is believed to have failed. Traffic, which was briefly at a standstill, has since returned to normal.
