Transjakarta removes passenger at Kampung Melayu after odor complaints

The operator apologized, is coordinating with the Social Affairs Office, and will use the incident to review staff SOPs.

PT Transportasi Jakarta apologized after staff removed a passenger from a bus at Kampung Melayu Bus Stop, East Jakarta, on Monday (3/8). The company said the action followed complaints from other passengers about a smell described as very strong. Ayu Wardhani, head of Transjakarta's Public Relations and CSR Department, said staff first approached the passenger until he eventually got off. Based on information received by Transjakarta, the man was homeless. The company is now coordinating with the Social Affairs Office so he can receive appropriate assistance. Video of the incident had circulated on social media and drew criticism from users who said the removal was inappropriate. Transjakarta said the case will be used to evaluate staff SOPs and improve sensitivity training.
