Maulid traditions draw crowds in Madiun, Tangerang, Bogor, Aceh Utara

Observances marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW in 1448 Hijriah were held festively in several regions across Indonesia on 24-25 August 2026, with different traditions in each area. In Madiun, East Java, residents paraded Gunungan Jaler and Gunungan Estri filled with farm produce and traditional cakes in the Grebeg Maulid procession, joined by 1,000 participants. In Tangerang, Banten, residents staged the Ngarak Perahu tradition in Pasar Lama while distributing farm produce; the tradition is said to have taken place since 1939. In Pagentongan, Loji subdistrict, Bogor, Islamic boarding school students took part in a dongdang parade and bongsang distribution. Meanwhile, in Dewantara, Aceh Utara, the celebration at Masjid Agung Bujang Salim featured Dikee Anggoek chants and a communal feast for orphans, the poor and local residents.
