Tourist plane crash near Peru's Nazca Lines kills 13

A small tourist plane crashed near Nazca in southern Peru on Saturday, killing all 13 people on board as it flew visitors to see the famed Nazca Lines. Police said the aircraft took off from Pisco Airport shortly before 1 p.m. local time carrying 11 passengers and two crew members. Major Jorge Andrade told reporters there were no survivors, and recovery crews were working through the wreckage at the crash site. Peru's civil aviation authority is investigating what caused the crash. The Nazca Lines, a UNESCO World Heritage site, draw large numbers of mostly foreign tourists on sightseeing flights from Pisco. Fatal crashes involving aircraft serving the route have happened before, including accidents in 2022 and 2010.
