Tottenham spending tops £300m as De Zerbi remakes squad
What's next: Spurs still expect more forwards after six signings as they try to move from a relegation fight toward Europe and the title race.
Tottenham's summer overhaul is set to push past £300 million as Roberto De Zerbi reshapes the club after steering it clear of relegation last season. The rebuild includes Sandro Tonali for £92.5 million, Mateus Fernandes for £85 million and Jan Paul van Hecke for £52 million, with Savinho and Omar Marmoush also poised to arrive from Manchester City for £85 million and £75 million. De Zerbi, hired in March, argued the spending was needed after two seasons near the drop zone and a final-day escape last term. BBC Sport reported Spurs have already added six players as De Zerbi adapts the tactical style he previously used at Brighton. Defender Micky van de Ven will miss Saturday's trip to Brentford through injury but has been named captain after Cristian Romero left for Atletico Madrid.
