Toronto-bound Canada flight canceled after child would not buckle in

A Porter Airlines flight from Victoria, British Columbia, to Toronto was canceled after a child would not remain seated and fasten a seat belt before takeoff. Flight PD444 had pushed back from the terminal at Victoria International Airport on Aug. 6 and was heading toward the runway when crew members saw the child standing in the seat. The plane returned to the gate, and the child and accompanying parent were removed. Porter said the time needed to deplane them, retrieve baggage and refile paperwork meant the aircraft missed the airport's 12:30 a.m. airfield closure. Passengers were rebooked, and the replacement flight left late on Aug. 7 and arrived in Toronto early on Aug. 8.
