Tornadoes touched down in New York and Delaware as severe storms swept across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Thursday night, damaging property, flooding roads and knocking out power. In Atlantic Beach on Long Island, a tornado tore through the Sun and Surf Beach Club, damaging or destroying 30 one-story cabanas and injuring one employee, who refused medical treatment, according to local fire officials. The National Weather Service said two waterspouts were confirmed in Queens and Long Island, with at least one moving ashore as a tornado. In Dover, Delaware, another tornado caused widespread damage, including downed trees, outages and flooding, prompting officials to urge residents to stay home.
