TNI ammunition depot blast in Madiun kills 1 soldier
DPR is pressing for a full probe, safety review and possible relocation of depots near homes after the blast.
An explosion at Gudang Munisi II of the TNI AD equipment center in Saradan district, Madiun regency, East Java, killed one soldier and injured six others on Thursday morning, July 16, 2026. TNI AD said the incident occurred while personnel were carrying out inspection and maintenance of ammunition material at one of the storage warehouses. Four victims suffered serious injuries and two others were lightly injured, then evacuated to hospital.
The cause of the blast has not been determined because an investigation team is still working at the scene. The warehouse area has also been closed and secured. In DPR, Dave Laksono and Tubagus Hasanuddin called for a thorough and transparent investigation, along with a review of safety standards, modernization of facilities, and a reassessment of depots that are too close to residential areas so similar incidents do not recur.
