Tito urges 3 Sumatera provinces to reactivate emergency status
That would let local governments in Aceh, Sumatera Utara and Sumatera Barat tap contingency funds and speed repairs without lengthy bidding.
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has asked local governments in Aceh, Sumatera Utara and Sumatera Barat to again declare emergency status after follow-up flooding hit a number of areas. The step is aimed at speeding aid for affected residents, infrastructure repairs and the rehabilitation-reconstruction work now under way. Tito said emergency status would allow local governments to quickly use unexpected spending, while ministries and agencies such as BNPB, Kementerian Sosial and Kementerian PU could accelerate support without long administrative procedures. The government is preparing post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatera for 2026-2028, with budget needs of around Rp100,1 triliun. Response efforts cover 53 regencies and cities in the three provinces.
