Timo Scheunemann rejects senior team job, backs youth work

He still leaves open a possible U-20 role, but rules out taking charge of the senior national team.

Indonesia U-16 women’s national team coach Timo Scheunemann has ruled out the possibility of coaching the senior national team and said he wants to stay focused on developing age-group players. At a news conference in Kudus on Sunday, the 52-year-old coach said his role is to identify talent, guide players and prepare young prospects to move up to higher levels. Timo said coaching age-group teams is actually more challenging because the program differs from the senior side, where the players are already established. He said talent scouting requires objectivity and special skills, meaning not every coach can do it. Timo recently led the U-16 women’s team to runner-up at the Srikandi Merdeka Cup 2026 after a 0-1 loss to Thailand in the final at Supersoccer Arena, Kudus, Central Java.
