Thomas Markle charged in US child sex abuse material case
What's next: A Florida judge released Markle under monitoring and ordered a psychological evaluation as the federal case moves forward.
Thomas Markle, the 82-year-old father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was arrested in Florida and charged in a federal child sex abuse material case tied to two Los Angeles-area storage units he rented for nearly 20 years. Prosecutors accused Markle of possessing the material and said the FBI seized about 78 items, including film negatives, slides and books, during searches of the units. At an initial court appearance in Tampa, a judge released him without bond, placed him on location monitoring and barred him from leaving the United States. Federal authorities said he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
