Taiwan charges 9 over shipment of 74 Nvidia AI servers to China

What's new: Prosecutors say 56 more servers were stopped at the border and some suspects used Japan fronts and fake websites.

Taiwanese prosecutors charged nine people Monday, including one Nvidia employee and two Super Micro employees, in a scheme to move high-end AI servers to China in breach of U.S. export controls. Keelung prosecutors said 74 servers with advanced Nvidia chips reached China, including 50 routed through Indonesia and eight sent through Japan, while another 56 were seized before export. The defendants face charges including breach of trust, document forgery and, for three people, embezzlement. Prosecutors said some suspects created a company in Japan and falsified information to evade checks on restricted AI hardware. They are seeking prison terms of up to five years for several defendants.
