Taco Bell pulls some fresh ingredients in Cyclospora probe
What's new: CDC has logged 1,645 confirmed US cases since May 1 and is reviewing more than 5,100 additional suspected infections.
Taco Bell temporarily removed some fresh ingredients at certain restaurants as US health officials investigate a possible link between the chain and a multistate Cyclospora outbreak. The company said officials have not confirmed Taco Bell, any ingredient, supplier, restaurant or retailer as the source, but it took the step as a precaution. The CDC says 1,645 domestic cases have been reported since May 1, with 145 hospitalizations, and more than 5,100 additional suspected cases are under review. Federal and state investigators, including the FDA, CDC and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, are examining whether fresh produce such as lettuce and other salad greens played a role.
