Suspended Cilacap regent charged in THR extortion of 27 OPD
Prosecutors said Rp568 juta was collected against a Rp500 juta-Rp700 juta target, and the defendant chose to proceed to evidence.
Suspended Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman was charged with forcing heads of regional government organizations in the Cilacap regency administration to pay money for Eid THR needs. The indictment was read by a KPK prosecutor at the first hearing at the Semarang Corruption Court on Friday, with Cilacap Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono named in a separate file as also involved in raising the funds.
Prosecutors said Syamsul requested around Rp500 juta to Rp700 juta. The order was passed on to several officials, and a list of 27 OPD was drawn up to ask for payments. The process collected Rp568 juta which, according to the prosecutor, was enjoyed by the defendant. The indictment also revealed objections from Subowo, Assistant for Governance and Public Welfare at the Cilacap regional secretariat, when asked to help coordinate the money collection. Syamsul did not file an exception and asked for the trial to continue to the evidentiary stage.
