Pew survey: 67% in 36 countries view Israel negatively

Israel’s image worsened in 13 of 24 countries with trend data, while trust in Benjamin Netanyahu remains low in many places.

A new Pew Research Center survey shows a majority of respondents in 36 countries hold a negative view of Israel. On average, 67 percent of adults surveyed expressed an unfavorable opinion of Israel, while 25 percent viewed it positively. The survey was conducted from February 8 to May 13, 2026. Pew also found perceptions of Israel worsened in 13 of 24 countries with comparable data since 2025. Negative sentiment was strongest in several Muslim-majority countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turki, as well as in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The report also showed trust in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was low in many countries; only in Kenya and the Philippines did more than half of respondents say they trusted him on global affairs.
