Support grows for Asset Forfeiture Bill ahead of Aug. 27 protest

Pressure on the DPR and government to quickly pass the Asset Forfeiture Bill is growing ahead of a planned protest outside the DPR RI building on Aug. 27, 2026. Gerakan Jalan Lurus said it supports passage of the bill, while Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu is preparing to travel to Jakarta to press the same demand. GJL National Executive Board chairman Riyanta said the draft has been placed on the priority list and is being discussed in the DPR. He said the public has the right to voice its aspirations, but the law still must go through the steps set by the legislative calendar. Riyanta also warned the DPR to be careful so that rules on forfeiting assets from corruption are not used arbitrarily by rogue law enforcement officers.
