Sunderland beat Brentford 3-2 to reach Carabao Cup quarterfinals

What's next: Sunderland drew Crystal Palace in the last eight after scoring three first-half goals in 13 minutes.

Sunderland surged into the Carabao Cup quarterfinals with a 3-2 home win over Brentford after a blistering first half at the Stadium of Light. Brentford created the early danger, hitting the post and crossbar and having another effort cleared off the line, but Sunderland struck three times in 13 minutes before halftime. Jocelin Ta Bi set up all three goals, with Chemsdine Talbi opening the scoring, Timur Tutierov adding a second and Malick Fofana heading in the third. Callum Wilson pulled one back before the break, and Igor Thiago scored in stoppage time, but Brentford ran out of time. Sunderland were later paired with Crystal Palace in the quarterfinal draw.
