North Sumatra sets aside Rp50 billion for UMKM capital in 2027

The funds will come with business incubation as 98.9 percent of North Sumatra's 1.4 million UMKM remain micro and small.

The North Sumatra provincial government is preparing Rp50 billion in capital support for UMKM operators in 2027. North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution said the funds are intended to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem and support the national target of creating 10 million new entrepreneurs. He said North Sumatra has about 1.4 million UMKM units with an entrepreneurship ratio of 4.1 percent, and 98.9 percent of them are still micro and small businesses. According to Bobby, the main need for business operators in the region is access to capital, especially in the culinary and tourism sectors. The provincial government is also preparing guidance through business incubation, including business management, business consulting, financing facilitation, and product promotion. UMKM Minister Maman Abdurrahman, who attended the 2026 Bursa Wirausaha Unggulan at the Auditorium of Universitas Sumatera Utara in Medan, also highlighted the importance of business financial management.
