Suicide bombing in Swat, Pakistan, kills 14

At least eight police were killed and 22 people wounded as residents held an anti-militant protest outside Kabal police station.

A suicide bombing exploded outside Kabal police station in Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan, on Sunday (2/8), killing at least 14 people. Swat police said the attacker tried to enter the police station compound at a road junction, but was stopped at the main gate and then detonated explosives. The blast came as hundreds of residents gathered for an anti-militant demonstration demanding security in the Swat Valley. Swat Deputy Inspector General of Police Fida Hussain said eight police were among the dead, while 22 people were wounded. No group has claimed responsibility, but suspicion has fallen on Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, which has become active again in the area in recent months.
