Spain's Sanchez joins Trump at World Cup final in New Jersey
What's new: King Felipe VI will also attend, while Argentina President Javier Milei plans to watch from home.
Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will attend Sunday’s World Cup final against Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, putting him alongside President Donald Trump at a match that also carries diplomatic overtones. Sanchez’s office said Friday that King Felipe VI will be there as well. The appearance comes after repeated clashes between Sanchez and Trump over NATO defense spending, the war with Iran and US support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza after the 2023 Hamas attacks. Reuters reported Trump could end up presenting the trophy if Spain win. Argentina President Javier Milei, a Trump ally, does not plan to attend and has said he will watch from home.
