SpaceX scrubs Starship test flight as engine issue hits stock

What's next: SpaceX plans another launch attempt early next week after replacing 2 Raptor engines.

SpaceX halted the 13th test flight of its Starship rocket seconds before liftoff from Starbase, Texas, after some of the Super Heavy booster’s 33 engines failed to start. Elon Musk said the automatic abort was triggered when engines did not ignite properly and that two Raptor engines will be removed and replaced before another attempt, likely early next week. The scrubbed mission was to be the first flight of the upgraded Starship V3 and carried 20 next-generation Starlink satellites. SpaceX shares fell about 3% in extended trading Thursday and slid further Friday, dropping below the company’s $135 IPO price as investors tracked the company’s first Starship test since going public in June.
