Southern California wildfire burns 6 homes as evacuations spread
What's new: The Norte Fire grew to 465 acres Friday, with red flag warnings in place as Santa Ana winds raise the risk of more fast-moving blazes.
A fast-moving wildfire in Southern California damaged or destroyed six homes Friday and forced evacuation orders in parts of Orange County. The Norte Fire broke out earlier in the day and expanded to 465 acres by evening as strong Santa Ana winds, low humidity and dry vegetation fueled dangerous fire conditions. Footage showed flames hitting homes in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. The National Weather Service issued red flag warnings for several California counties, warning that gusty winds would continue into Saturday. State fire officials said the Norte Fire was one of 13 active fires across California. Another blaze, the Bryson Fire in Malibu, also triggered evacuations and reached 147 acres.
