Some Gen Z Trump voters pull back as midterm voting begins

Why it matters: A Navigator focus group found 6 of 8 gave Trump a D or F, a warning sign for Republicans in tight Senate races.

Some young voters who backed Donald Trump in 2024 now say they are disappointed with his presidency as early voting starts in several states ahead of the midterms. In a virtual focus group run last week by Navigator Research, eight Generation Z Trump voters from Florida, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas and South Carolina described frustration with politics and unmet expectations. Six of the eight graded Trump’s job performance a D or F, while two gave him a C. One participant from Florida said rising costs had pushed him to consider Democratic candidates this fall. NPR noted the group was small and not nationally representative, but said the comments tracked with Navigator polling this month showing more than a third of voters under 30 regret supporting Trump.
