SoFi Stadium workers reach deal, avert World Cup strike

What's next: About 2,000 food-service workers vote Wednesday on a pact with wage gains, subcontracting limits and raid protections.

About 2,000 bartenders, servers, cooks and dishwashers at SoFi Stadium reached a tentative contract agreement Tuesday, avoiding a strike ahead of the U.S. men's World Cup opener against Paraguay on Friday. The union, UNITE HERE Local 11, said workers won higher pay, protections against subcontracting and the right to strike if an immigration raid happens at work. Union leaders said some cooks now making about $31 an hour would rise to $38 or $39 within two years, with many reaching $40 an hour. The agreement with food-service provider Legends Global runs through April 2028, just before the Los Angeles Olympics. Workers are set to vote Wednesday on whether to ratify the deal.
