SK Hynix weighs $12 billion special dividend as shares climb 3%
What's next: The chipmaker plans to detail shareholder returns with third-quarter results on Oct. 28 after pressure for bigger payouts.
SK Hynix is preparing to disclose shareholder return measures on Oct. 28, after a report said the South Korean chipmaker is considering a special dividend of about 16 trillion won, or roughly $12 billion. The prospect of a large payout pushed the stock up as much as 3% in Seoul on Monday even as AI-linked shares sold off more broadly. Dong-A Ilbo reported the dividend could be funded by gains from SK Hynix's earlier 2026 sale of its stake in Japanese memory maker Kioxia. SK Hynix said only that it is reviewing various return options and will present them with third-quarter earnings. Investor pressure for larger dividends and buybacks has grown after record profits from AI memory chips and a sharp retreat from the company's June share highs.
