Singaporean arrested after choking girlfriend to death in Denpasar
Police suspect the victim was killed after asking to end the relationship, and the suspect had overstayed in Bali since 2025.
Polresta Denpasar arrested a Singaporean identified as MZ after a woman identified as AS was found dead in a boarding room on Jalan Mekar II, Pedungan, South Denpasar, Bali. Police suspect MZ choked the victim for about 15 minutes during an argument, then tried to flee toward Sanur before being arrested on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai on Wednesday night. The victim, a 26-year-old woman from Tegal, Central Java, had been in a relationship with the suspect for about a year. Preliminary findings indicate the dispute was triggered by the victim's request to end the relationship. AS's body was found by her younger sibling after failing to reach her for nearly a week and smelling a strong odor from the room. Police also said MZ came to Bali as a tourist and had overstayed for about one year since 2025.
