Singapore to test ERP 2 roadside parking at 19,000 lots in August

What's next: The broader satellite-based ERP 2 charging system is due to start Jan. 1, 2027, as physical gantries are phased out.

Singapore will begin an August trial of roadside electronic parking under its ERP 2 system, letting about 1,000 motorists start parking sessions from the on-board unit display instead of using the Parking.sg app. The pilot will cover 644 designated car park locations and about 19,000 roadside lots, the Land Transport Authority said. Drivers will tap a parking icon or prompt on the display to begin a session, and charges will stop automatically when they leave. The trial is part of Singapore's shift from gantry-based road pricing to a satellite-based system using Global Navigation Satellite System technology. Location-based charging and checkpoint charging under ERP 2 are set to roll out on Jan. 1, 2027, while a start date for the parking feature has not been set.
