Singapore to open 3 MRT stations on Dec. 26, linking TEL and DTL
Why it matters: The link cuts some east-side trips by 25 minutes and sets up direct rail access to Johor Bahru from February 2027.
Singapore will open three new MRT stations on Dec. 26: Bedok South and Sungei Bedok on the Thomson-East Coast Line, and Xilin on the Downtown Line. Sungei Bedok will serve as an interchange, connecting the two corridors and adding new routes for commuters in the east. The Land Transport Authority said the stations will improve access to jobs hubs including Changi Business Park and Tampines Regional Centre. A trip from Havelock to Changi Business Park is expected to fall to about 45 minutes from 70 minutes and no longer require a bus transfer. Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said the extension will also help pave the way for through rail travel toward Johor Bahru when the RTS Link opens in February 2027.
