Singapore to open 3 Circle Line stations on July 12, closing loop
What's new: The final stretch runs under Keppel Viaduct and a national monument after years of complex tunneling and systems work.
Singapore will open the final three Circle Line Stage 6 stations — Prince Edward Road, Cantonment and Keppel — for public preview on July 4, with service starting July 12, completing the line as a full loop. The project required engineers to bore beneath the Keppel Viaduct while traffic kept moving above and to tunnel 6.7 meters below the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station without damaging its protected heritage features. At Prince Edward Road, space constraints near high-rise buildings and the viaduct forced a stacked tunnel design, with works passing about 3 meters from nearby foundations. The Land Transport Authority also said more than 100 people worked on integrating newer rail systems and depot facilities with the 17-year-old line.
