Singapore taxi driver gets 2 weeks in jail for red-light crash

What's new: The court also barred the 41-year-old from holding any driving license for five years after two people were hurt.

A Singapore taxi driver was sentenced to two weeks in jail and banned from holding any driving license for five years after he ran a red light in Jalan Kayu and crashed into another cab, injuring the other driver and his own passenger. Loo Jun Jie, 41, pleaded guilty on June 9 to one Road Traffic Act charge, with a second charge taken into consideration. The crash happened on May 8, 2024, at about 11:42 a.m. as he drove toward the Tampines Expressway. Prosecutors said the light had been red for at least seven seconds when Loo went through the junction. The other taxi driver suffered a fractured rib, while Loo's passenger had knee abrasions, dizziness and nausea. Both were taken to a hospital.
