Singapore swaps National Wages Council chair as Peter Seah steps down
What's next: Hsieh Fu Hua takes over immediately as the council prepares 2026-27 wage guidelines due by end-October.
Singapore replaced the head of its National Wages Council after Peter Seah stepped down for personal reasons, with deputy chairman Hsieh Fu Hua taking over immediately. The Ministry of Manpower accepted Seah’s request on Aug. 19. Seah, 79, had led the tripartite body since 2015, overseeing wage guidance through the COVID-19 period. The council is due to convene Wednesday to draft annual guidelines covering Dec. 1, 2026, to Nov. 30, 2027, including progressive wage growth for lower-wage workers. Hsieh, 75, was appointed deputy chairman on Aug. 7 for the 2026-27 session. He also chairs the National University of Singapore board of trustees and sits on the GIC board.
