Singapore steers nearly S$100 million to water R&D and reuse

What's new: S$85 million goes to PUB under the RIE2030 plan, including a used-water plant due for development in 2027.

Singapore will direct close to S$100 million into research and development for municipal and industrial water solutions, as the city-state braces for heavier climate pressures and rising demand from water-intensive sectors. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong set out the funding at the opening of Singapore International Water Week on June 16. Of the total, S$85 million under the Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 plan will go to national water agency PUB for work including desalination and managing emerging contaminants. Another S$12 million will support water efficiency and recycling projects for wafer fabrication and data centers. PUB also plans a research facility for used water treatment that is due for development in 2027.
